Does Claude Pro include Claude Code?

Yes.
No extra fee · within the plan's limits

Yes. Claude Pro is one of the account types Claude Code accepts, and there is no separate Claude Code charge — your $20/month covers both the chat app and the coding agent. What you get is usage limits, not unlimited access: agentic work consumes far more than chatting, so heavy users move to Max ($100 or $200) or switch to metered API credits.

No add-on fee — the plan price is the whole cost Team and Enterprise also accepted, per seat Free plan is not — Pro is the entry point Not unlimited — usage limits apply and agents eat them fast Same login everywhere — terminal, IDE, desktop, web

PER VENDOR DOCS · AUG 01, 2026

Pro is on the accepted list, and nothing on it is sold separately.

The quickstart's login step lists the account types Claude Code accepts: Claude Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise (marked "recommended"), a Claude Console account with pre-paid credits, an enterprise cloud provider, or a self-hosted gateway. Pro is the cheapest subscription on that list, and the docs describe no Claude Code product to buy on top of it.

Our verified plan sheet puts Pro at $20/month ($17 billed annually), checked 2026-07-16. Max sits above it at $100 and $200 — same product, more headroom.

The word doing the work in the answer is included, not unlimited. Every subscription tier carries usage limits, and a coding agent reading a repository burns through them at a rate ordinary chat never approaches. That's the practical reason people upgrade, and it's a capacity decision rather than a feature one.

§ 02 / WHY

What "included" does and doesn't mean.

2.1
One subscription, every surface

The same Pro login works across the terminal CLI, the VS Code and JetBrains extensions, the desktop app and the browser version — they're surfaces over one engine, not separate purchases. Your project instructions and settings travel with the account.

So the honest framing is that Pro buys you access to Claude, and Claude Code is one of the ways you reach it.

2.2
Where the limits actually bite

Chat and agentic coding consume the same allowance at wildly different rates. A conversation sends a few thousand tokens; an agent exploring a repository re-reads files, runs commands, reads output and iterates — the same allowance disappears in a fraction of the time.

That's why Anthropic sells Max at 5× and 20× Pro's usage rather than as a different feature set. If you hit limits mid-task regularly, the tier is the problem, not your prompting.

2.3
When to leave the subscription entirely

Metered Console credits are the other route: no monthly fee, you pay per token. For bursty use — a few days a month — that is usually cheaper than any subscription. For sustained daily agent work it usually isn't, and it has no ceiling to protect you.

The crossover depends on your volume, so model it rather than guess. The pricing page lays out every route side by side.

Frequently asked.

Quick follow-ups people search after this question.

Q · 01 Do I pay extra for Claude Code on Pro? +
No. The Pro fee of $20/month is the entire cost — there is no Claude Code add-on to buy. What varies between tiers is how much usage you get, not which features are unlocked.
Q · 02 Is Claude Code included in the free Claude plan? +
No. The free tier is not among the account types Claude Code accepts; Pro is the cheapest subscription that works. See is Claude Code free for the full list of routes in.
Q · 03 Does Pro give unlimited Claude Code usage? +
No — every tier has usage limits, and agentic coding consumes them much faster than chat does. Max exists specifically to raise that ceiling (5× and 20× Pro), which is why heavy users end up there.
Q · 04 Does Claude Team include it too? +
Yes. Team and Enterprise are both on the accepted list, sold per seat and quoted by Anthropic. Those seat prices sit outside our verified plan sheet, so we don't publish a figure for them.
